Frequently Asked Questions

Are the products that PROTURF applies safe for children and pets?

PROTURF intentionally and responsibly select the safest products available for each application and treatment. PROTURF technicians are licensed and annually trained to work safely and conscientiously around people, pets, and the environment. Our licensing requires us to follow strict label directions and regulatory standards, which are designed to protect your family and surrounding environment.

We recommend thinking of treated areas like wet paint: keep children and pets off the lawn until the application has fully dried. Under average weather conditions, 1-2 hours will allow ample time for the liquid to dry. Once the product is dry, normal use of the lawn can resume.

At PROTURF, we are sensitive to environmental surroundings and take care to avoid drift, overspray, and unnecessary applications, especially near gardens, water features, and neighboring properties. If you have particular concerns (such as pollinator‑friendly areas or play zones), let us know so we can adjust our approach accordingly.

At PROTURF, our Turf Care Program primarily consists of dry granular fertilizer products. However, we use targeted spot treatments in liquid form for weed control products. Under average weather conditions, 1-2 hours will allow ample time for the liquid to dry. The yellow pesticide flags are required by the State of Massachusetts to stay up 24 hours after treatment and should be removed after irrigation/rainfall or 72 hours.

No, it is not required to “water in” any application. PROTURF recommends waiting 1-2 hours before running an irrigation cycle to allow any spot treatments for weeds to dry. Beyond that, regular irrigation cycles and some help from Mother Nature in the form of rain will be sufficient to work the product into the soil.

PROTURF generally recommends following the same guidelines for mowing as we do for watering. Waiting at least 1-2 hours until mowing to allow any spot treatments for weeds to dry. We see very little granular pickup after mowing with any residential type mowers and tractors. PROTURF would caution against mowing immediately after an application with heavy duty commercial mowers as they generally have more robust collection power.
